The New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation believes that by helping to educate the Hispanic young people of New Orleans, they will have more career choices, better life opportunities, and in turn, make their own contributions to the health and well-being of the community in the future. To this end, the NOHHF has launched its Mentoring Program to help outstanding Hispanic students plan for, and develop, their future academic and professional careers. Through a series of virtual sessions, coordinating with local high schools during the first two quarters of the year, the program is focused on offering information regarding college preparation and opportunities, and aims to inspire youth to work towards professional development.

The NOHHF will offer two virtual sessions for the first phase of its program. On March 31st the program will make a presentation to Ursuline Academy students on the topic: Why Should I Get a College Degree? The event will be presented by speaker Dr. René Citrón, Chief Education and Training Officer of the Louisiana Community & Technical College System.

The second one-hour virtual presentation will be held on April 29th and will address the topic of the different options of Financial Resources in College to East Jefferson High School students. This presentation will focus on providing valuable information to high school juniors and seniors that aim to attend a higher education institution after graduation. The virtual event will be presented by speaker Anna Daigle, Director of Financial Aid of Loyola University in New Orleans.

This initial phase of the NOHHF mentoring program has been designed for college-prospect high school juniors and seniors. The interactive presentations are intended to help students better understand their expectations and the greater possibilities associated with attaining a college education so they may thrive in their first year. The program will help further their understanding of the college finance process and help them to adopt characteristics of successful college students.
